Town walk promotes healthy living
An eight-week programme aimed at encouraging people to adopt a healthier more active lifestyle has been launched in Wexford town with the first event being a community walk led by Wexford hurler Lee Chin.
The walk, which was organised to mark the town's selection as a Pfizer Healthy Town for 2018, lasted around 40 minutes and saw people of all ages taking part.
It was one of a number of events planned for the duration of the eight-week programme which will include focusing on mental health as well as physical activity.
A free mental health workshop will take place with Irish author and medic, Dr Harry Barry, in Clayton White's Hotel on Wednesday, October 10, at 7.30 p.m.
A free cookery demonstration featuring celebrity chef and cookbook author, Catherine Fulvio, will be held in the Riverbank House Hotel on Wednesday, October 24, at 6.30 p.m.
That event is being organised in conjunction with the Irish Heart Foundation.
Commenting on the healthy walk Lee Chin said he was proud to represent his home town as this year's Pfizer Healthy Town ambassador.
'This is a fantastic opportunity for Wexford town to showcase the huge variety of health and well-being services available to everyone in the community here,' he said.
Pfizer Managing Director, Paul Reid, encouraged local people to 'take small steps to make improvements to their lifestyle'.
A map highlighting health and well-being resources in Wexford town will be available at the mental health workshop and cookery demo.
