Traffic calming needed
Urgent works are needed at Summerhill before a serious accident occurs.
Cllr Anthony Kelly laid down a notice of motion at Wexford District Borough meeting last week calling on the council to 'call for a traffic report to be carried out at the Summerhill/Talbot Green roundabout with a view to installing adequate calming measures at the Summerhill approach to the roundabout in the interest of road safety.'
He said that the area was very dangerous and that a lot of school children gathered there. 'It warrants some sort of traffic calming. Even if it were just signs.'
Cllr Davy Hynes said 'some people just go straight through that roundabout. There could be a bad accident there'. He was supported by Cllr Deirdre Wadding who said that people don't treat it as a roundabout at all while Cllr Fergie Kehoe said the council should also looking at providing a pedestrian crossing there.
Cllr George Lawlor said drivers felt they had the right of way.
