Traffic chaos at busy junction as lights go out over weekend

One of Wexford town's busiest junctions was left without traffic lights for three days.

One of Wexford town's busiest junctions was left without traffic lights for three days.

The traffic control system at King Street crossroads beside Tesco supermarket stopped working early last Friday.

Traffic chaos ensued as hundreds of motorists travelling in four different directions found themsevles having to negotiate the junction without lights.

Traffic coming from The Boker faced the worst hazard as drivers were unable to see oncoming cars emerging from King Street.

On Friday evening, a spokesperson at Wexford Borough Council said the local authority was aware of the problem.

She said the company responsible for fixing the lights was due to arrive over the weekend.

On Saturday morning, signs appeared with the messages 'Traffic Lights Out of Action' and 'Slow Down'.

The lights were back in action this week.
