Training hard and raising funds ahead of the Rás
THE TEAM Wexford cycling squad, which is currently in training to take part in this year's prestigious Rás cycling event, recently took to the roads around the county to raise funds to cover the cost of competing in the event.
Their target was ¤10,000, and this will cover the cost of five riders and five support staff taking part in eight-day Pro-Am International Stage Race. They cycled from Gorey to Wexford and back, with riders from across the South East taking part.
They were delighted with the total amount raised on the day, and though they fell slightly short of their target, it is hoped that sponsors will come on board to make up the remainder of the funds.
They thanked everyone who supported to the event and to the Gardaí for issuing the collection permit.
The Rás takes place from May 22 to 31, with a stage finish in Gorey on Friday, May 28, and leaving Gorey again on the Saturday.
