a trawler ran aground on a sand bank at the approach to Kilmore Quay recently, but Harbour Master Captain Phil Murphy has denied suggestions that there is a serious problem there.

'We don't have a problem with the approaches to Kilmore Quay. Sand built up there 12 months ago and we issued a marine notice, which is still force, to warn vessels in the approaches,' said Capt. Murphy. According to local reports, at least three boats recently run aground at the harbour approach.
