Trouble at vacant house for ten years
COUNCILLOR CALLS FOR ACTION AT FERNDALE
A WEXFORD councillor has highlighted a decade of anti-social behaviour at a vacant house in the town.
Cllr. Anthony Kelly of Sinn Fein has pleaded with the Borough Council to address long-standing problems at the house in Ferndale Park.
Cllr. Kelly said the house was now vacant about 10 or 11 years.
He understood there were legal obstacles but he urged officials to 'initiate procedures' to resolve the issue.
Cllr. Kelly said he had received numerous requests from concerned residents.
' This house is a magnet for antisocial behaviour. It's an eyesore up there, particularly where it is, next to the FAB community house.'
'Is there some way we can overcome the obstacles that are there,' he asked.
Cllr. Philomena Roche said the house in Ferndale has 'created huge problems for a long number of years.'
Cllr. George Lawlor said the Council would have to go to court.
This is a huge negative in the community. It has gone on for far too long, through no fault of ours.'
The Town Clerk, Pat Collins explained that the house is private property.
Asking members of the press not to take notes, he went into committee to explain further details.
Cllr. Kelly then re-iterated the concern of residents.
'It's going on a long time. People wold like to see some kind of resolution soon,' he said.
