Two from Wexford are honoured at UL

A young Bridgetown woman was one of three students at the University of Limerick (UL) who received an 'Outstanding Achievement' citation when the annual President's Volunteer Awards were handed out there last week.

Laura Anne Furlong, who is completing her PhD in Biomechanics at UL, was honoured for her work in the development of the Irish Hockey Association.

While three students received 'Outstanding' awards, 127 others were also honoured, and these included another County Wexford student, Billy Roche from Enniscorthy.

The University of Limerick established the President's Volunteer Award (PVA) Programme in 2010 to encourage students to engage with their communities and become lifelong believers in social responsibility. Over the course of the last academic year, the 130 student volunteers have collectively given over 8,660 voluntary hours to community organisations ranging from youth clubs, homework clubs, sporting clubs, and a broad range of organisations in the voluntar y/community
