UK Choir sends its thanks to Wexford
THE CONDUCTOR of a UK-based choir has sent his thanks to the people of Wexford for the red-carpet treatment recently extended to his organisation.
Nigel P. Wilkinson, the musical director of Oldham Choral Society, recently conducted a performance of Mendelssohn's 'Elijah' with his own choir, Oldam Choral Society and Wexford Sinfonia.
'Planning for this had been ongoing for the best part of a year and much of the success of the venture must be attributed to Richard Miller and his wife Ruth who did so much to ensure that everything ran smoothly,' h e said.
A total of 100 travelled from Oldham and they made St. Helen's Golf Club their base for their stay.
'The friendliness of the local people was much commented on as we reflected on what was a truly memorable extended weekend,' he said.
'I would like to take this opportunity to thank the community of Wexford and notably our hosts Wexford Sinfonia for the kind invitation to join them for this concert and for the warm welcome we received. Following on from the recent visit of Queen Elizabeth, joint ventures of this type can only further underline the most cordial relations that now happily exist between our two countries. Long may this continue,' he said.
