Uninsured driver took mum's car while she was in shower
A YOUNG Kilmore Quay man who took his mother's car without her permission while she was in the shower was spotted driving through the village at speed by a local man, Wexford District Court has heard.
Josh Power (19), of 46 Crossfarnogue Villas, Kilmore Quay, was charged with driving without insurance and a licence on May 20, 2010.
Sergeant Mick Clarke told Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla that he received a call about a motorist driving from the roundabout in Kilmore Quay to Crossfarnogue Villas a short distance away.
The sergeant said the caller gave him the registration of the car, but was also familiar with the driver, Josh Power, and where he lived.
Sgt Clarke then called to the house, where the car was parked in the driveway, and informed Power of the complaint. The young defendant initially denied driving the car. He admitted he had no driving licence. He was also not insured on the car at the time.
Solicitor Siobhan Dunne, for Power, said he took his mother's car while she was in the shower, to go to the shop and back.
She said he is a full-time fisherman who hopes to get a Skipper's ticket, for which he will need to attend a course in Donegal. He was anxious not to be disqualified from driving as he will need to travel to Donegal and back for around three months.
Judge O Buachalla said he would adjourn the case for a year to see how Power gets on in the meantime, but would impose a penalty when the case comes up again on January 3, 2012.
