Wexford Community Forum winds up
The County Wexford Community Forum, an umbrella body for the community and voluntary sector, has been officially wound up as part of local government reforms.
The new channel for community participation will be directly through the newly-established Public Participation Network. Over 300 organisations have already signed up for the new PPN and from that membership, a secretariat has been formed who will be in touch shortly seeking representatives to new bodies.
Established in 2000, its primary function was to act as a coherent, representative voice on behalf of the community through a wide range of committees, boards and task forces. The Community forum became the main channel for communities to have a voice within decision-making structures including the County Development Board, Wexford Local Development, County Childcare Network, Local Sports Partnership, South East Drugs Task force and joint policing committees.
During its time The County Wexford Community Forum had over 700 affiliated community and voluntary organisationS and ran numerous free training programmes
They also distributed a small grant programme for organisations who committed to delivering projects which addressed issues of social exclusion.
The County Wexford Community Forum said it wanted to thank all their member organisations personally, for their active participation and engagement.
