Wexford Local Development's future said to be secure

By David Tucker

The future of Wexford Local Development (WLD) appears to have been secured following months of uncertainty.

Sources in the town said WLD had secured a significant development programme. Its chief executive Brian Kehoe said on Monday (March 9) that it would be premature to comment.

The organisation is unique in being a community-based partnership organisation which runs initiatives ranging from community and rural development, to employment and enterprise supports, training and education as well as specialist supports for groups.

WLD has supported more than people in 30,000 entrprises in County Wexford over the past 20 years and employs 80 people, many based in Wexford town.

'If it is the case I welcome the fact that WLD has been awarded a contract.. they are best placed to deliver this kind of service in the county,' said the Mayor, Cllr. George Lawlor. Last year, WLD's funding was cut and it was told it would have to tender for future projects.
