Wexford Mace shops take home excellence awards

Three Mace stores from Co. Wexford were among those honoured for achieving exceptional standards in retailing at the annual Mace Excellence Awards which were held at the Ritz Carlton Powerscourt in County Wicklow.

Durack's Maxol Mace in Ardcavan and Frayne's Maxol Mace in Enniscorthy were among a special group of retailers who received an Excellence Award for five consecutive years, while McSorley's Mace in Ballinaboola was also among the recipients.

All three Wexford retailers were rigorously monitored throughout the year in areas such as shop presentation, food safety and legal compliance, and they had to comply with a strict set of criteria in order to receive their awards. The assessment also involves surprise audits carried out on an ongoing basis throughout the year by mystery shoppers as well as Mace personnel. Addressing the Mace retailers at the awards ceremony, Willie O'Byrne, Managing Director of BWG Foods, which owns and operate the Mace brand in Ireland, said: 'The Mace Excellence Awards recognise those who, through their commitment to outstanding retail standards and customer service, continue to set the benchmark for the brand and marketplace overall.'

Congratulating recipients of the Mace Excellence Award, Alex Banahan, Mace Sales Director, said: 'I would like to congratulate our Mace retailers in Wexford who, by harnessing the momentum of the Mace brand, continue to develop, expand, and improve their offering year on year. The awards are an important part of our "Mace Aiming Higher Strategy", helping us as a network to achieve our retailing ambitions.'
