Members of the emergency services in Wexford made the short trip to Waterford recently to take part in the annual Dara Fitzpatrick Memorial Run.

The third time it has taken place, the run is held in memory of Coast Guard helicopter pilot Dara Fitzpatrick, who died in the line of duty back in March of 2017 and saw members of public joined by those in emergency services run 5k along the runway at Waterford Airport.

The run is made all the more special by the fact that emergency services crew run in their full gear as a mark of respect to the crew of 116 who lost their lives on that fateful rescue.

Wexford was well represented on the day with members of Rosslare, Kilmore and Curracloe Coastguard, Wexford RNLI, Wexford MarineWatch and Wexford Ambulance Service all making the journey to Waterford for the event.

Speaking afterwards, Lorraine Galvin of Wexford RNLI said it was an extremely special event.

'It's an important event in our calendar every year,' she said. 'It's important to us that we show up and run in our gear to show our respect and remember Dara who served with Rescue 117 for 10 years and would have been on many rescue missions around Wexford.'
