WEXFORD'S Christmas Lights will be switched on at around 5 p.m. on Saturday (November 25), after the magical Winterland Parade winds its way through Wexford town.

The Mayor, Cllr Jim Moore, accompanied by Santa and some of the colourful characters from Wexford Pantomime Society's production of Cinderella will be on hand to make things go smoothly and to see that Santa gets a warm welcome to the town.

'All of us with white beards will be there,' said Cllr Moore.

The parade, which starts at 4.30 p.m., will be the official start of this year's Wexford Winterland Festival, which includes Santa's North Pole Experience, The Christmas Express and The Wexford People People on Ice.

Brought to the town by Wexford retailers, the parade will slowly travel through the town, starting in Selskar, heading down main street and turning down on to Anne Street, ending with the big switch on by Cllr Moore, which is due to take place on the quayfront.

Madeleine Quirke, CEO of Wexford Chamber, said Santa's North Pole Experience is a must for everybody this Christmas with magic and fun around every corner.

'From Dozy Elf to reindeers, candlelit shops to the post office where letters to Santa can be posted and to receiving a present from the real Santa Claus (it will be a) a truly captivating and enchanting start to Christmas for the whole family. I have already booked my ticket!'

Santa's North Pole Experience, The Christmas Express and Wexford People Wexford on Ice can all be booked at www.wexfordwinterland.com, by calling 053-9199199 or at the Lantern Box Office at 1 North Main St.
