Woman failed to report collision with parked car
A WEXFORD woman who accidentally struck a car as she left her ex-partner's house, but drove off without reporting it, has been fined a total of €600.
Jennifer Carroll (29), of 6 Richmond Close, faced a number of counts of hit and run following her collision with the parked car at 24 Whiterock Heights on February 20 last.
Wexford District Court heard on Monday that the Gardai received a call on February 21 from Margaret Butler, who had parked her car outside 24 Whiterock Heights while visiting a friend, but returned the next morning to find that damage had been caused to her silver BMW overnight.
The Gardaí then went to speak to her friend's ex-partner, Jennifer Carroll, and she admitted hitting the car in her blue Hyundai. Carroll, who has no previous convictions, gave a voluntary statement and admitted the offence.
Her solicitor said that this incident happened at Carroll's former family home, of which she is a joint owner. She had gone there to check on her daughter and got into a row with her ex-partner.
The court heard she was very upset and emotional and hit Ms Butler's car when leaving the driveway. She panicked and didn't return into the house to tell her ex-partner what had happened, but said she knew that he would know it was her who had hit the car.
Carroll was fined €600, but was not disqualified from driving.
