Work to begin on new hospital extension next month - Howlin
WORK will begin next month on the major extension at Wexford General Hospital, Minister Brendan Howlin told the crowd at the official opening of County Hall last Friday.
Minister Howlin noted that one of the signs held by the small band of protesters outside the new €46 million Wexford County Council HQ at Carricklawn said there is 'No money for hospital, but €1 billion for motorway', a reference to the proposed Oylegate-Rosslare motorway.
Minister Howlin said this is untrue, referring to the €20 million he pledged for a new A&E department and maternity unit there.
'I checked this week that the commitment made is well on target,' said Minister Howlin. 'I expect preliminary work on the new A&E and maternity units to commence, as promised, next month.'
'Even in difficult times I am looking forward to one or two more tape cutting arrangements,' he said.
