Wow! Wedding dress is sold for just €100
BRIDAL SHOP'S MASSIVE SALE
' THE PRICES are extraordinary!' exclaimed one observer as the biggest wedding drew showroom in the country decamped from Enniscorthy for the day to Dublin on Sunday. Hilda Kavanagh was the talk of the city as she offered dresses worth thousands for as little as €100 at the Green Isle in Clondalkin at the weekend.
'For €100 you would get a very nice dress,' stressed Hilda (née Mernagh), who runs Eden Manor Bridal at the Butcher's Lane in Clohass, with the help of her husband Tom. The bargains were possible as she cleared out her stockroom to make way for new lines in a big spring-clean.
The biggest bargain of the weekend was picked up by a woman from Navan who stayed overnight in the hotel in order to be sure of her place at the head of the line. She picked up her American-made wedding dress for a cool €100. And she confessed that the purchase meant that she could go now ahead with her wedding, which she would not have been able to afford if she had to pay full price. All told, scores of dresses were snapped up by eager customers during the day.
The event drew the attention of the producers at TV3's Ireland AM, who invited the Enniscorthy entrepreneur to face the cameras last week. Indeed, Hilda has become a regular on morning television, bringing a splash of glamour to screens across the nation that goes down well with the breakfast cornflakes.
Hilda stressed that most brides to be do not pick a dress first and foremost on price and that the costume for the big day is the last item to be cut in any wedding budget.
She scours the globe for dresses, travelling out of the country at least 10 times a year as she deals with suppliers in Canada, Spain, the US, Italy, France, Holland, Israel, the UK and Poland.
She also has an Irish-based designer on her list – the Italian-born Tamen Michael.
