One Christmas Day baby at Wexford General Hospital
There was no shortage of attention for beautiful Rianna Maria Pavel who was the only baby born in the labour ward at Wexford General Hospital on Christmas day.
Rianna arrived into the world at 2.51 a.m. on December 25, after her mother Iuliana went to the hospital at midnight from the family home a short distance away in Farnogue Drive in Wexford town.
Wexford's only Christmas day baby weighed 3.34kg (7.36 lbs) and is the second daughter of Iuliana and her husband Marian whose eldest child Riesi Ioana is two years and three months.
Far from Rianna's arrival interrupting the festivities, Iuliana was delighted for her daughter to be born on such a special day.
'All the staff in the hospital were very nice', said Iuliana who is back home and calmly adjusting to life as a mother of two, with valuable help from her mother Sindi Pihontu who lives with her and Marian.
Originally from Romania, the Pavel family have been living in Ireland for the past five years. Both Iuliana and Marian work in Cafolla's takeaway in Wexford town.
It was an unusually quiet Christmas in the labour ward at Wexford General where Iuliana was joined by one other mother who gave birth on Christmas Eve. It was the quietest it has been for many years, according to staff.
