A great night of musical nostalgia
THE LAUNCH of the much anticipated CD 'Dreamers & Corner Boys: Rock, Pop & Indie Wexford Bands 1978 - 1989' took place on Friday night, and for many people it was like travelling back in time as they enjoyed the music from some of their favourite Wexford bands of the 1980's.
Playing on the night in front of a capacity crowd at Wexford Arts Centre, were Black Arthur and the Undertakers, Yellow Moriah, Mike Odlum and Tru'penny Orchestra. Organiser Ger Byrne was also joined on stage by some of his old band mates from Prime Suspect and everybody gathered on stage to play a couple of songs together at the end of a great night of music and nostalgia.
All the money raised from the evenings entertainment and from subsequent CD sales will go to the Ichthyosis Support Group. Ichthyosis is a rare skin disorder that affects as few as 300,000 people (in its most severe form) worldwide. One such sufferer is 9 year old Conor Kenny from Enniscorthy, whose parents Edel and John are very active in raising money and awareness for the charity. Conor joined some of the musicians on stage on the night playing the tin whistle and his performance was greeted with massive applause.
Organiser Ger Byrne has said that he wanted to do something to raise money for the Ichthyosis Support for quite some time and it was his wife Cathy who finally encouraged him to do something with music.
The result is this fantastic, 20 - track trip down memory lane, mastered and produced by Michael Egan which includes numbers from stars of the era such as Cry Before Dawn, Larry Kirwan and Pierce Turner, as well as a number of tracks that you may not have heard in a while and which may never have made it onto CD before.
The CD is priced at €10 and is available from Whites for Music and The Sky and the Ground.
