A wicked night of entertainment in store at Dun Mhuire Theatre
Some of the finest young acting talent in the county will take to the stage at the Dun Mhuire Theatre this Saturday June 22 for two performances of 'Wicked in Oz', which is a mix of the musicals 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'Wicked'.
Members of The Superstars Stage Academy from Kilrane, Rosslare Harbour and Enniscorthy will perform in the first show at 6 p.m., before the children of Wexford Town get their chance to shine in the 8.15 p.m. performance.
Described by Academy Director, Sharon Clancy, as 'an explosion of colour, song and dance with all the classic hits, a show for all the family', Wicked in Oz follows Dorothy and her friends down the yellow brick road before taking a step back in time to the world of Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West.
'We're extremely excited about the event, it's going to be our best show yet' said Sharon. And although Superstars Stage Academy is only four years old it has already made its mark on both a national and international level.
'This year alone our kids have scripted and filmed two short films for the film festival circuit with BenPix Productions,' revealed Sharon. 'Ciara and Sophie Doherty have made it to the finals of TeenStars in Dublin and Ciara has also featured in the finals of Junior Eurovision. Some of them appeared on RTÉ Junior and featured in music videos too.'
Offering local children the opportunity to explore their creative talents, the Academy provides weekly classes in singing, dancing and acting in its three schools. Sharon and choreographer Jonny Smith also run a 'Movie Mania' summer camp during the school holidays. 'This is a great for kids who really want to develop their stage craft and skills. It is brilliant for confidence building and making friends too,' said Sharon. Tickets can be bought on www.eventbrite.ie
