The spoken word mentoring programme 'Seed to Stage' is returning for a second year with performers young and old invited to take part in a free six-week training course and graduation show.

Any kind of stage performance utilising and inspired by the written word will qualify for the programme from poetry, slam poetry, slam prose and rap to first person testimonial, storytelling and prose with music.

As part of Wexford County Council's Creative Communities initiative, Cursed Murphy aka the novelist and spoken word performer Peter Murphy will work in a mentoring capacity with a group of approximately 10 apprentice performers to write an original graduation show which will be developed over a five-week period and staged at Wexford Arts Centre on August 11.

The programme is free of charge and will feature guest mentors and performers, to be confirmed soon. If you would like to take part, email seedtostage@gmail.com outlining what you are interested in.

Peter Murphy is the author of two novels, John the Revelator (2009) and Shall We Gather at the River (2013) published by Faber & Faber in Ireland and the UK and by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in the US and Canada.

His fiction has been translated and published in many countries abroad and nominated for the Costa, Kerry Group Fiction Prize and the IMPAC prize.

He helped to develop the radio drama Coma with Kevin McCann which won the silver prize at the PPI Broadcasting Awards in 2015.

Peter's journalism and non-fiction has appeared in Rolling Stone, The Guardian, the Irish Times, Hot Press and Huffington Post.
