It was a busy Easter for Clonard Folk Choir who, not content with singing for the many services that took place at Clonard Church, took part in two events that were broadcast on TV, radio and internet, on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.

The group was hard at rehearsal in the weeks leading up to the services and spent many an hour perfecting their sound in the church ahead of their two performances. The group specialises in performing modern folk music under the tutelage of musical director Ruairi Byrne.

Both services were very well attended - the church was full for the Good Friday service and three-quarters full on Easter Saturday. Choir member Jim Nolan said they had received great feedback from those in attendance and also from those who had watched or listened live on the days in question.

The choir themselves are no stranger to the airwaves, having performed in Donnybrook twice before, the most recent occasion being last June. Mr Nolan believes that the strength of that performance was what enticed the RTE crew down to Clonard for Easter weekend.

In a very poignant move, the choir performed 'Will You Remember', a composition by the late Sue Furlong, whose husband David is a member of the Clonard Folk Choir.

The group is always open to new members. They meet every Friday for rehearsal and sing for 11.30 a.m. Mass each Sunday. For further details, speak with any choir member after Sunday Mass or contact Ruairi on 086 827 0632.
