The Makers House in the Creative Hub in Wexford town celebrated its first anniversary with a day of art and craft demonstrations, poetry recitals and music.

Members of the public had a chance to meet with the craft makers involved to talk to them about their inspiration and design ideas.

The makers are professional artists and craftworkers who are members of the Design Craft Council of Ireland and make and sell art, ceramics, eco-printed glass, prints, sculpture, silver jewellery and stained glass and host demonstrations, workshops and open evenings.

Included are Mairead Stafford who makes ceramic pieces inspired by coastal landscapes; Rebecca Homfray, a printmaker who uses techniques such as lino-cut and woodblock; Mairead Cairbre of Tír na nÓg Creations who makes unique embroidered robes; artist Mary Wallace; sculptor Guy Urbin; Pauline Quigley who makes jewel-like stained glass and Varna Studios comprising jeweller Lina and sculptor and blacksmith Dainius.

The group of craft workers and artists joined forces in August 2018 to take a large space in the Creative Hub which was opened by Wexford County Council to support and promote the local artistic community.

The Makers House brings together the finest of locally created crafts under one roof.
