FDYS to host games/talent finals

THIS WEEKEND the FDYS have the honour of hosting the Youth Work Ireland National Games finals and The Youth Factor in Co. Wexford.

The Games will be held in the Astro Active Centre in Enniscorthy on Saturday, while the Youth Factor will be staged in St Michael's Theatre in New Ross on Sunday as part of the JFK Homecoming celebrations.

FDYS Youth Clubs have as usual an excellent entry from its volunteer led youth clubs in County Wexford for the weekend's activities.

Nine regions will be taking part in the Games, including the Midlands Regional Youth Service, Donegal Youth Service, Kerry Diocesan Youth Service, Ossory Youth, CDYS Youth Work Ireland, Clare Youth Service, Limerick Youth Service, Carlow Regional Youth Service, and FDYS. The Clubs representing FDYS in the Games are: Courtnacuddy, Oylegate, Crossabeg, Bree, Glynn, Templeshannon, Ballygarrett and Clonard, participating in Soccer, Basketball, Table tennis, Table Quiz and Chess.

Taking to the stage in New Ross for the all important Youth Factor will be Carlow Regional Youth Service, Youth Work Ireland Louth, Donegal Youth Service, Midlands Regional Youth Service, Tipperary Regional Youth Service, CDYS Youth Work Ireland, Kerry Diocesan Youth Service, Limerick Youth Service, Clare Youth Service and FDYS. In the Youth Factor the club's representing FDYS include Courtnacuddy, Bree, Ballymurn and Oylegate showcasing their talents in bsong, dance and performance.

FDYS has 26 Senior and 12 Junior Youth Clubs affiliated around the county, which are all run by volunteers. They offer a variety of programmes to members. On the fun side they offer games such as soccer, basketball, quizzes, chess, draughts, tag rugby and dodge ball. For members with an interest in stage and drama they offer The Youth Factor and Junior's Got Talent shows. Training programmes offered to the leaders include child protection training, first aid, arts and crafts as well as workshops on bullying and suicide.

For the 14 to 16 year age group FDYS runs an eight week senior member training programme. On completion of this course the members can assist senior leaders in a Junior Youth Club.
