Culture vultures were out in force for the launch by Mayor of Wexford Cllr. Tony Dempsey in Greenacres Art Gallery of this year's Festival Fringe guide, signalling the countdown to Opera season in the town with the 67th international event due to begin on October 19.

Niall Reck, President of Wexford Chamber which produces the guide, said the organisation is honoured to be associated with the Festival which is one of the finest in Europe and its success is due to the quality of the performers, producers, artists and creators.

He said the Festival Fringe guide wouldn't survive without serious financial help and he extended a 'massive thank you' to Wexford County Council for their generous support and Greenacres for its sponsorship.

The Chamber President paid tribute to Think Print for designing and printing the guide, Róisín O'Neill and Lauren Scully for co-ordinating the project and Denise Farrell for securing the support of a large number of advertisers.

Mayor Dempsey said over 300 fringe events will take place in Wexford town over 17 days, involving an incredibly diverse array of creative activity, including drama, musicals, literature, visual art, opera, Spiegeltent Festival and Singing and Swinging Pubs.

He paid tribute to the people of Wexford, the volunteers, advertisers, business people and those involved in arts and crafts 'who have ensured that we are hugely successful in presenting our festival on a worldwide stage'. Mayor Dempsey commended Wexford County Council on its support of the arts and congratulated Wexford Chamber for driving the fringe guide project. He urged everyone to support the festival and to enjoy all the cultural experiences on offer. Fringe guides are available from Wexford Chamber, Wexford Arts Centre, the National Opera House and many other venues around Wexford.
