Music in plentiful supply at Jack's 90th birthday party
There was no shortage of entertainment at the 90th birthday party of well-known local musician Jack Curran in the Glynn-Barntown GAA clubhouse.
Accordionist Jack of Carrigmannon, Killurin who plays regular traditional sessions in Galbally and is in constant demand for parties and nursing home concerts, was joined by a large group of family and friends at the milestone party including some who travelled from the UK.
Among the gathering were up to 30 musicians who brought along a variety of musical instruments to provide a lively session which had Jack up dancing and singing.
The birthday cake made by Jenny's Cupcakes in the Faythe was in the shape of an accordion, exactly like Jack's own accordion, thanks to photographs surreptitiously supplied by his grand daughter Aisling Rowan who organised the party.
'He knew that the party was happening so I wanted the cake to be a surprise', she said.
Two of Jack's grandchildren Clodagh Eckbauer and Gillian Thompson were unable to attend as they are in Australia but they sent video messages which everyone watched on the night.
Jack was showered with presents and good wishes on the special occasion.
