Musician Larry Kirwan is homeward bound

The Wexford/New York musician and playwright Larry Kirwan has announced a return to Wexford Arts Centre on Thursday, October 5 as part of an annual Irish tour.

Larry who has lived in the US for many years, will be accompanied by two busloads of American and Canadian fans who are travelling with him on the journey home.

A well-regarded playwright and composer, he wrote the musical Paradise Square which played the Berkeley Rep in California for a 10-week sold out run earlier this year and will open in Broadway early next year.He writes a bi-weekly column for the Irish Echo and is the host of Celtic Crush on SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

Raised in George's Street, Wexford, Kirwan played his first gigs with the Johnny Reck Showband at Wexford Arts Centre (then the old Town Hall). He performed with Pierce Turner in Turner & Kirwan of Wexford and Major Thinkers before forming the New York-based band Black 47 which played 2,500 gigs in 25 years, performing with Neil Young and Joe Strummer. The band released 16 albums.
