Oyster Lane theatre group take on hit musical Hairspray

The stage is set for Oyster Lane's production of Hairspray this October.

Stepping into the lead role of Tracy Turnblad is Yvette Walsh. Yvette, who has been an active member of the society for many years, played Mary Magdalene in last year's production of Jesus Christ Superstar and has recently played Mabel in Pirates of Penzance with Gorey Musical Society.

Stephen Byrne, an award winner on the drama circuit, will play the role of teen heart-throb Link Larkin. Gearóid McCauley, fresh from playing the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz with Enniscorthy Musical Society, will take on the role of Edna Turnblad, with Oyster Lane newcomer Seamus Murphy playing Edna's loving husband Wilbur.

Long term Oyster Lane members Neal O'Leary and Michael Farrell take on the roles of Corny Collins and Seaweed J. Stubbs respectively, while Ann Marie Walsh plays Motormouth Maybelle with Sadhbh Roche as her daughter Little Inez.

Aishling Jones and Emily Brazzill step into their first major roles with Oyster Lane playing Amber Von Tussle and Penny Pingleton respectively, with Nicola Roche as Velma Von Tussle and Majella Londra as Prudy Pingleton playing their mothers.

Clara McDonald will play the Gym Teacher, while Oyster Lane stalwarts Dylan Walsh taking on Mr. Pinky, Marian O'Leary playing Matron and Lorraine Busher Carley as Principal round off what is truly a very talented front line. The cast features many more named roles which are sure to impress audiences from the outset with their lively dance routines, choreographed by the remarkable Suzanne O'Leary, their wonderful singing, musically directed by the very talented Patrick Clancy, and their dramatic portrayal of this fabulous musical, directed by the talented Imelda McDonagh.

'The Nicest Kids In Town' at Oyster Lane Theatre Group are sure to prove to Wexford audiences that 'You Can't Stop The Beat'! The show is expected to be a huge hit and people are advised to book tickets early.

Hairspray runs in the Dun Mhuire Theatre from Tuesday, October 20, to Sunday, October 25. Details of ticket sales and times will be announced in the coming weeks. Song project in Kilmuckridge 

5 LOCAL SONG PROJECT: Traditional singer Aileen Lambert will facilitate a new project focusing on exploring local songs and unaccompanied traditional singing in Kilmuckridge. Starting this Wednesday, September 13 from 7.30 p.m. in Bridie Hammel's Pub this project will take place over the course of a number of weeks.
