Nearly 200 runners felt every bit of the old saying 'March many weathers' as they gathered for the CBS 5km Fun Run. There was a cutting wind and dark clouds circling as participants took their place at the starting line, however, it didn't interfere with the excitement as the music pumped and everyone got warmed up.

As soon as the race was started by teacher and local councillor John Hegarty, however, things took a challenging turn for the pack of runners as sheets of cutting sleet began to fall on them. It made for a difficult climb up the hill to Whitemill as they made their way to the roundabout at Joyces.

As they turned to come back, the sleet subsided and the sun returned to the sky once again, the pack maybe even feeling the heat a little more as they ran back towards Bishops Water before rounding the corner at the traffic lights at Tesco and facing one last climb up Bride Street before crossing the line.

Having recently crossed the line first in the Wexford Credit Union 5k Night Run, there was further success for Ger Forde who managed to win the CBS event as well with a great time of 16:03.

He was followed by David Mahon with 17:32 and Paul Gibbons with 17:39.

First lady back was Paula Fenlon with a time of 19:02, followed by Anna Leigh Hore (20:13) and Angie Redmond (21:29).

The first student over the line was Darragh Collins followed by Nathan Barron and Padraic Jordan.

At the finish line, runners were greeted with soup and sandwiches, provided by Pettitt's and there was a great atmosphere as people compared times and discussed the route.

The event was a fundraiser for the school's autism suite and pitch fund and organisers were hopeful that, once everything is tallied, a significant contribution will have been made.

They wished to thank everyone who took part and supported the event in any way and congratulated the winners.
