Teen film producers/directors of the future invited to event

St Michael's Theatre in New Ross is hosting the Wexford Widescreen Film Festival on Saturday, September 15, at 6 p.m.

The festival celebrates youth film in County Wexford and will screen short films created by teenagers across the county. Young people interested in film are strongly encouraged to attend this special event is open to the public and entry is free.

The County Wexford Youth Film Project is based in St Michael's Theatre and facilitates free filmmaking and animation workshops throughout the year. Participants have enjoyed national success and their films have been screened at The Odeon Cinema, Dublin, have reached the National Fresh Film Finals and have been selected for screening at The First Cut Film Festival in Youghal.

In the past they have also won The Radharc Trust Award for their documentary 'St Mary's Church'.

A range of events will surround the main film premiere on Saturday. At 7 p.m. the Bistro at St. Michael's Theatre will host a special talk by film producer Fiona Kinsella on the role of the film producer.

Meanwhile this Thursday local schools are invited to a screening of youth films from County Wexford at 12 p.m.

On Sunday September 16, at 2 p.m. the Gorey School of Art will also jointly screen the films shown at The Widescreen Film Festival. The festival is co-coordinated by local filmmaker Therese Dalton who said the film and animation industry is thriving in Ireland at the moment.

'This is a great opportunity for young people to explore both art forms. We are privileged to have access to these workshops in County Wexford', commented Therese.

The Arts Department of Wexford County Council and St Michael's Theatre in New Ross fund the Widescreen Film Festival and workshops.
