Third album from Kevin
Renowned Wexford drummer, Kevin Lawlor, will release his third album as a band leader in Wexford Arts Centre on Sunday, December 2, at 5 p.m.
Mr Lawlor is the Director of Jazz Studies at County Wexford School of Music and is widely regarded as one of the most talented contemporary jazz musicians in the country.
His new album, 'Last Days of Summer', marks somewhat of a departure from his two previous releases. Where they were comprised of traditional jazz format tracks the new album offers a clear divergence as it incorporates long form compositions with improvised passages.
He has also utilised a band of younger musicians from Wexford, Kilkenny and Dublin as opposed to hiring session musicians from the UK.
Speaking about the album Mr Lawlor said he enjoyed working in a band format.
'This is band music and I have worked closely with the group to get the best out of the music,' he said.
'I'm really pleased with the sound of the music thanks to everyone trusting my vision for the project,' he added.
The album was recorded earlier this year in the National Opera House and a limited number will be sold before it goes on streaming platforms with Visuals by UK Art director, Emma Chapman.
