Wexford to the fore at AIMS nominations

HUGE ANTICIPATION surrounded the announcement last weekend of this year's AIMS nominations, with Wexford's musical talent once again up for several awards.

HUGE ANTICIPATION surrounded the announcement last weekend of this year's AIMS nominations, with Wexford's musical talent once again up for several awards.

Wexford Light Opera Society, Oyster Lane Theatre Group, Gorey Musical Society and St. Michael's Theatre's Musical Society have all been nominated for prestigious awards this year.

Wexford Light Opera has picked up six nominations for 'The Witches of Eastwick' in the Gilbert Section. They have been nominated for Best Overall Show, Best Director in John Donnelly, Best Actress in a Supporting Role in Catherine Walsh, Best Comedienne in Sharon Clancy (pictured), Best Comedian in George Lawlor and Best Technical Award for lights, setting and sound.

Emma Morris from Oyster Lane Theatre Group has been nominated for an 'Outstanding Youth Performance' title in the Spirit of AIMS/Adjudicators Special Award.

In the Sullivan Section Gorey Musical Society has been nominated for their recent offering of 'All Shook Up'. They are also nominated for Best Stage Management (Paul Doran), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Joan Deignan), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Malcolm Byrne), Best Chorus and Best Technical for lighting, sets and sound).

'The Producers' by St. Michael's Theatre Musical Society in New Ross has been nominated for six awards, including Best Overall Show in the Sullivan section. Kevin Kennedy has been nominated as Best Director, Dylan Walsh has been nominated as Best Actor, Keith Flanagan has been nominated for a Best Actor in a Supporting Role title, Kevin Reade has been nominated for Best Comedian and Claire Buckley has been nominated for Best Choreography.

The winners of the awards will be announced in the Gleneagles Hotel in Killarney on June 15 and without doubt the excitement amidst the nine hundred plus who will attend will be tangible.
