A Tomas Byrne point two minutes into injury time made the difference for Kilmore as they edged aside Glynn-Barntown in the Junior 'A' Hurling Championship Quarter Final in Hollymount on Sunday.

The Seasiders, who held a four point lead at half time were pegged back by their opponents before Byrne dealt the deciding blow.

The teams exchanged points in the early stages, with Aaron Kehoe playing a vital role for Barntown scoring all of his teams first half scores (0-3).

Damien Rossiter and Patrick Byrne knocked over early points for Kilmore before Byrne produced the moment of the first half when he burst through on goal and send a thundering strike past Adam Kennedy and into the top of the net.

Thomas White added two more points which gave the Ballask side a 1-4 to 0-3 lead at the break.

Despite an early Shane Goff point for the leaders, it was Glynn-Barntown who started the half sharper. Tommy Kehoe and PJ Carley pitched in with minors as did Aaron Kehoe, who added two more to his first half tally. Tomas Cousins and Patrick Byrne kept Kilmore ahead during this period of pressure with points.

Barntown even took the lead (1-8 to 1-7) with just four minutes remaining when the prominent Kehoe burst through the Kilmore back line and finished into the bottom right corner.

However, it was the Seasiders who would have the last laugh. They levelled through Cousins and two minutes into injury time Tomas Byrne confidently pointed from wide right.

Tempers frayed late on and Patrick Byrne of the victors as well as Mark Carley of Glynn saw red after a brawl.

But it was Kilmore who held on to advance to the final four of the Junior 'A' Hurling Championship.
