Cloughbawn go through

Cloughbawn made better use of the wind in a blustery Oylegate on Sunday to deny Duffry Rovers and book their place in the semi-final of the Enniscorthy Electrical Wholesale Junior 'A' hurling championship.

Cloughbawn 2-10 Duffry Rovers 0-10

Duffry Rovers stuttered to a 0-7 to 0-1 half-time advantage, which didn't look near enough turning around to play into the teeth of a strong wind, and so it proved as Cloughbawn comfortably hauled them in and kicked on to victory.

Micheál Doyle was the go-to guy for the Duffry in the first-half as he contributed all of his side's scores as they built up a 0-5 to nil lead by the 14th minute.

Doyle's scoring monopoly was eventually ended and it came from an unusual source, with goalkeeper Kaylem Fenlon taking advantage of the stiff breeze to fire over a longe-range free.

Conor Harrrington arrowed over a sideline cut on 22 minutes to get Cloughbawn off the mark but they continued to defend tenaciously and another Doyle free was all the Duffry could muster before the break.

Cloughbawn slowly but surely reduced the deficit, with Joey Lawlor, Mick Kavanagh and Conor Harrington all finding the range as they reeled in their opponents.

They dragged themselves back on level terms midway through the second-half, when full-back Tony Keating's booming clearance, with the aid of the wind, went all the way to the net.

John Paul Furlong then put the result beyond all doubt in the 56th minute when he pounced on a Joey Lawlor effort at a point that had come back off the post, and rifled the ball beyond goalkeeper Kaylem Fenlon.
