Craanfrod's dominant attitude guided them to victory over Askamore on Sunday in the All-County Hurling League Division 6 semi-final. The committed blue and white panel can now look forward to the final against Duffry Rovers after a comprehensive win on their home soil.

Craanford 0-24 Askamore 1-11

Tensions were high during this local derby but Craanford's performance seemed a step superior throughout. Their influential free-taker, John Fleming, was in top form for the entire match and the same can be said for the youthful sharpshooters, James Smyth, Martin Doyle and Calvin O'Toole.

Fleming began his scoring tally in the opening minutes by smartly making the most of an Askamore foul. Ted Kinsella replied for the black and amber squad by doing likewise at the opposite end. Kinsella was reliable throughout and worked in perfect harmony with the two outstanding forwards, Gavin Sunderland and Edmund Kenny.

Although Fleming and Peter Kavanagh enhanced Craanford's lead, Askamore did manage to find the back of Derek Finn's net before the half-time whistle blew. John Byrne secured the strike which saw his men down by four at the break.

Craanford prospered within minutes of the second-half throw-in. Mick Shortle certainly played up to his captain's role as he produced a monumental performance throughout. Raymond Lancaster and Jamie Quinn did Askamore proud too by creating and securing many scores between them. Alas, these scores were just not enough as Matthew Nolan and Des Kavanagh powered on for the home team.

Although efforts for a comeback were evident in the performances by Gary Kinsella and Garry Doran, determination shown by Seán Byrne, Tony Kavanagh and Patrick Lancaster couldn't be denied. This combination brought matters to a close and an unsuccessful ending to Askamore's league campaign.
