Creane on target in Marshalstown's win

Thirteen points from Laura Creane propelled Marshalstown to Junior 'C' camogie league title glory in Oylegate on Sunday.

Marshalstown 2-19 Bannow-B'mitty 0-9

The deadly attacker was in imperious form, both from placed ball and from open play, as she swatted score after score to put a shell-shocked Bannow-Ballymitty to the sword.

Six of those came in the opening 22 minutes as the eventual winners eased into a 0-7 to 0-4 lead. Alma Morris picked off the other point for her side, while Pamela Fitzharris, scorer of all six of her team's first-half points, replied for Bannow-Ballymitty.

Creane had a further trio of points registered by the break as the Enniscorthy District club moved into a 0-11 to 0-6 interval advantage. Both sides added three more points in the third quarter, Ellen Kelly and Creane (two) for Marshalstown while Róisín Howlin, Olivia Scott and Pamela McCormack scored for Bannow-Ballymitty as the gap remained at five.

However, the final 15 minutes belonged to Marshalstown. Elaine Ryan and Emma Leacy added their names to the list of point-scorers and the champs rounded out the game with late goals courtesy of Wexford Intermediate Ellen Kelly and substitute Aoife Hennessy to lift the trophy in style.
