Doyle points way
Taghmon take victory with comfort
The unerring accuracy of sharp-shooter Pierce Doyle helped Taghmon-Camross to their second win in Group A of the Enniscorthy Electrical Wholesale Junior hurling championship in a windswept Páirc Charman on Sunday.
Taghmon C'ross 1-16 M'geer-B'vogue 0-5
Ed Rowsome split the posts to give Monageer-Boolavogue the lead in the first minute but that was the only time they were ahead, with five points from Doyle (four frees) putting the New Ross District side 0-5 to 0-1 ahead after 14 minutes.
Stephen O'Gorman then got in on the act, firing over a point from the right, and T.J. Codd stretched the Taghmon-Camross lead further.
Doyle, who bagged 0-10 in total, continued his scoring exploits with a fine point from play, which was cancelled out by James Donohoe, before T.J. Codd effectively killed off the Monageer-Boolavogue challenge by hitting the back of the net in the 27th minute.
An Ed Rowsome free reduced to deficit to 1-8 to 0-3 at the break but Taghmon-Camross comfortably kept their opponents at arm's length after the interval.
Their full-back line looked solid throughout the second-half, as they calmly dealt with a number of high balls that were peppered in.
Doyle added another four points to his tally, with three coming from placed balls, while Barry O'Gorman, Stephen Stafford (two) and Thomas Furlong all kept the scoreboard ticking over.
John O'Loughlin and David Breen replied for Monageer-Boolavogue, who tasted defeat for the second week running, after losing out to Faythe Harriers on the opening weekend. Taghmon-Camross had pipped Shelmaliers by a point in their first outing.
