Dwyer does big damage

ML. Heffernan

A personal salvo of 3-3 from Mikie Dwyer helped Fethard to claim their second win in Group B of the Top Oil Intermediate 'A' hurling championship, as they saw off Buffers Alley without too much difficulty in St. Patrick's Park on Sunday.

Fethard 4-19 Buffers Alley 2-10

The game was only on a minute when the lethal teenage marksman raced towards the posts and finished excellently to the net, laying down a marker for what was about to ensue.

Dwyer added two minors shortly after Mark Wallace and Garrett Foley found the range, before he grabbed his second goal in the 18th minute.

Buffers Alley were finding scores hard to come by, only finding the range through two Owen Dempsey frees before John Moran picked out James Foley who unleashed a cracking shot to the net with seven minutes remaining in the half.

Dempsey continued to exchange scores with Mark Wallace and Chris Molloy, leaving the Alley still in with a chance at half-time when they trailed by eight points.

Keith Burke got things under way on the resumption but Fethard were determined not to let the lead slip, adding points through Wallace and Graham O'Grady.

Moran found the net for the Gorey District side, something he was threatening to do all day, which gave them a glimmer of hope with 20 minutes remaining.

But Dwyer was on hand immediately to smash home his third goal before Molloy added a fourth going into the final quarter to dispel any hope of a Buffers Alley comeback.

This spurred on the New Ross District side even further and they finished off the job in style with O'Grady and Wallace racking up impressive tallies in a win that sees Fethard take third place going into the final round of games.
