A total of 14 teams attended the Under-14 ladies' football blitz for secondary schools in the Halo Tiles and Bathrooms Ferns Centre of Excellence recently, with over 300 in action.

The 'A' division involved second year and first year pupils competing at the highest standard, displaying exceptional football skills. County players were prominent throughout the competition.

The matches were all competitive, with the results being decided by one or two points. There was a tie for a final place between Presentation Wexford 'A' and Loreto Wexford 'A', with Presentation securing their place against F.C.J. 'A' by winning the point-taking shoot-out.

The final was exciting throughout with wonderful displays of football by both teams.

A rocket goal was scored by Aoife Farrell (F.C.J. 'A') from the 21-yard line to confirm they were winners of the 2019 Division 'A' final. Jacqui Kehoe (captain) received the cup on behalf of the victorious team.

The 'B' division allowed our first year players to compete for the first time in secondary school. It was a great day for teachers and coaches to see the talent of the incoming students.

The standard was excellent, with a three-way tie for the final between Presentation Wexford 'B', Loreto Wexford 'B' and Coláiste Bhríde (Carnew).

The point-taking shoot-off was won by Presentation and Carnew who then competed in the final, and Coláiste Bhríde came out victorious to win the 'B' division. Melissa Doran (captain) received the cup on behalf of the victors.

Thanks to Ferns Centre of Excellence for hosting the blitz, with a special mention to transition year students in Gorey Community School who helped their teacher, Anita Hughes, organise and run the successful event.
