With a bridge dividing these neighbouring parishes, and some of their under-age teams united under the St. John's banner, it was perhaps fitting that Bannow-Ballymitty and Clongeen should serve up a share of the spoils in this Lodgewood Engineering Intermediate football championship Group B clash in Rathangan on Saturday.

Bannow-B'Mitty 0-8 Clongeen 0-8

And the point apiece will be welcomed by both sides given their first round losses, although Bannow-Ballymitty will perhaps be a little happier for two reasons.

Firstly, they looked to have a serious job on their hands at the break when they only led by 0-6 to 0-3 after playing with the strong wind. And secondly, they were without Wexford ace Ben Brosnan who was straight red-carded near the end of the previous weekend's loss to Kilanerin and was unsuccessful in having his one-match ban rescinded at a hearing earlier in the day.

Two Niall Harney frees and a Niall Murphy effort had Bannow-Ballymitty 0-3 to 0-1 ahead after eight minutes, with Nigel Kehoe opening the account for Clongeen who then drew level courtesy of Cathal Murphy and Christopher Cullen.

And while Harney (free), Pat Fitzharris and Arthur Sweetman then made it 0-6 to 0-3 for the red and blacks, the last twelve minutes plus added time were scoreless as the leaders ended the half with an 8-0 wide count.

Bannow-Ballymitty didn't register again after Niall Harney gave them an 0-8 to 0-4 lead from a 38th-minute free following earlier placed balls swapped by Aaron Diskin and Páraic Cullen.

However, their defence was solid and Clongeen's last point from play came from Cullen with over 20 minutes left.

The same player sent over two more frees to reduce arrears to the minimum (0-8 to 0-7) with eleven minutes remaining, but the leveller didn't come until near the finish when Emmet Kent tapped over after a foul on substitute Liam Murphy.

With just twelve seconds of added time played at the end of a second-half featuring 29 frees (17 for Bannow-Ballymitty), there was no time for either side to snatch a late winner.
