Oylegate-Glenbrien earned the bragging rights by comfortably overcoming their near neighbours in the Greenstar Under-20 football championship Division 2B in Crossabeg Community Field on Saturday.

Barry Doyle was in scintillating form for the boys in blue, helping himself to a hat-trick of goals, while the lively Pierce Murphy also chipped in with a major.

Doyle wasn't long about hitting the back of the net as he gathered a crossfield pass from Ryan Hill and applied a clinical finish in the fifth minute.

Jack Furlong replied immediately with a lovely point on the run, but Doyle again showed his worth in the twelfth minute, splitting the posts after some good work from Garry Conroy.

The Enniscorthy District side threatened to grab a second goal five minutes before the break when Mike Kelly broke forward with real menace, but goalkeeper James White was equal to the shot, diving full length to tip his effort around the post.

Oylegate-Glenbrien quickly tagged on a point though as Pierce Murphy slotted over, and although Crossabeg-Ballymurn finished the half on a high when David Kehoe notched a peach of a score from long-range, they still had it all to do, trailing by 1-2 to 0-2 at the interval.

Oylegate-Glenbrien really asserted their dominance after the turnaround, with Richard Murphy finding the range and Barry Doyle bagging his second goal by firing to the net after some pinball in front of the posts.

In the 37th minute they had their third goal, when Pierce Murphy put on the after-burners and finished in style.

And seconds later they twice came close to raising the green flag again, with James White saving from substitute Tommy O'Rourke and Barry Doyle.

Joe Dunne (free) and Alex Sludds then swapped points before Doyle again did the needful in front of goal, palming in a Richard Murphy pass from close range.

An energetic Oylegate-Glenbrien outfit never took their foot off the pedal and put a further gloss on the scoreline, with Pierce Murphy converting a free and Richard Murphy adding two quick-fire points late on to wrap up a convincing victory.
