The 25-year wait for a second Leinster Senior football 'A' championship title in St. Peter's College ended in style in O'Moore Park, Portlaoise, on Friday, January 27, when the Summerhill side produced a superb display to overcome Moate Community School by 2-13 to 0-7 in the final.

Late goals from man of the match Barry O'Connor and Cathal Devereux were the icing on the cake for the Wexford standard-bearers whose sole previous success in the grade came in 1992 with a one-point win over Portarlington C.B.S.

Peter's started well and burst into a 0-3 to nil lead before being pegged back, but the last four scores of the half left them 0-7 to 0-3 clear at the interval.

It was 10-5 midway through the second-half, and Peter's pushed on from there with the O'Connor cousins, Barry and Rory, leading the charge along with outstanding centre-back and captain, Conor Firman.

Cathal Devereux top-scored with 1-5 for the victors, with Barry O'Connor grabbing 1-4. Firman surged forward to kick a brace of points, one per half, with Rory O'Connor and Ben Moore completing the scoring on a special day for the school.
