Premier Minor final put on hold after adult draws
Sarsfield claimed the big title of the People Newspapers Coiste na nÓg championships last week, overcoming Castle-Craan Gaels in the replay of their Wexford People Minor football Roinn 1 championship final.
The game was held in a soggy Oylegate on Sunday morning and a full report, as well as write-ups on all the under-age finals played last week, are contained within this section.
Sunday afternoon should have seen one of the biggest games in the local G.A.A. calendar take place at Innovate Wexford Park, with St. Martin's meeting Mogue O'Rahilly's in the Wexford People Minor football Premier championship. However, draws for Fethard and Gusserane in the adult championships have scuppered those plans.
That's one of just nine fixtures remaining in the People Newspapers Coiste na nÓg championship this season. The first of those takes place this evening (Tuesday) when Fethard meet St. Mary's (Maudlintown) in the New Ross Standard Under-14 football Division 3 championship final (Taghmon, 7 p.m.).
Fethard are looking to end the season on a high, after losing by just a point to eventual champions Crossabeg-Ballymurn in the Division 3 hurling semi-final. The Wexford town club had a great win over Our Lady's Island/St. Fintan's in the semi-final last week.
The Maudlintown club have had a great few weeks. They beat Sarsfields on Tuesday (1-8 to 0-10) to make the Gorey Guardian Juvenile football Roinn 1 championship final. They will meet a Blackwater side which saw off HWH-Bunclody on Saturday morning, and that fixture is likely to be played next week.
Rathnure face Blackwater in the Enniscorthy Guardian Juvenile hurling championship final on Sunday. The sides finished first and second in the Group B table, with the Blackstairs boys winning the game between the teams all the way back in April. The Over The Water club will be looking to complete the first part of a possible double.
Shelmaliers and Dunbrody Gaels are scheduled to meet in the Wexford People Minor football Premier shield final on Friday evening, although the former's hurling replay with Gusserane will likely affect this.
The Hollymount side are looking to complete a double after winning the hurling equivalent back in late September.
The Wexford People Minor hurling Roinn 1 championship semi-finals take place on Saturday. HWH-Bunclody and Munna-Abbain face off at 11 a.m., while Oylegate-Glenbrien and Hollow Rovers meet at 12.30 p.m. in St. Patrick's Park.
Finally on Sunday, Cloughbawn meet Our Lady's Island/St. Fintan's in a Wexford People Minor hurling Roinn 2 championship final that was originally scheduled in August. That game is down for St. Patrick's Park with an 11 a.m. throw-in.
It's now looking increasingly unlikely that the People Newspapers Coiste na nÓg championships will finish by the end of the month, with Leinster Club games and potentially Under-21 matches being thrown into the mix in the coming weeks.
