Starlights completed the perfect season by wrapping up the New Ross Standard Coiste na nOg Under-14 Division 2 football championship crown against a young Sarsfields side in Oylegate on Sunday morning last.

Starlights 4-10 Sarsfields 1-04

It was a truly stunning performance from the Bellefield boys who had stars all over the field. The inside forwards all goaled inside ten minutes before they left it to the backs to shut out the late charge that Sarsfields tried to mount.

There's is no doubt about the fact that this Starlights team can compete in Premier and they will be a match for most sides when they step up to the top tier in the Under-16 age group in two years time.

For Sarsfields it was a disappointing end to a great season. They were without their captain Conor Kehoe because of injury but gave it their all against a physically bigger, stronger side. They'll certainly be back with players like Liam Cassin, Richard Lawlor and Cian Foley all impressive on the day.

Starlights hit the front in the second minute when Matthew Balfe's ball in was punched to the net from close range by Craig Peare. After Jason Gordon went close for Sarsfields, Stars grabbed another major, this time through the excellent Lee Jordan.

After Foley pointed at one end, the Wexford Town club got back into the game when Cian Foley cut in on the right and fired a stunning shot into the roof of Anthony Larkin's net. However, it only momentarily stalled Starlights momentum with Evan Foley smashing home a major moments later (3-1 to 1-0).

The victors registered their fourth goal midway through the half when Foley found the net soccer style on the left but to Sarsfields credit, they knuckled down and didn't conceded another major. Richard Lawlor pulled a couple of points back before the interval but a Michael Delaney over saw the champs lead 4-3 to 1-2 at the break.

The Enniscorthy Town side were content on picking off points in the second half with Jordan (2), Jack Kirwan (3), Balfe and Evan Murphy all on target. Sarsfields did get scores from Richard Lawlor and Cian Foley but it wasn't enough to keep with the sensational Starlights.
