Taghmon take title
Taghmon-Camross 4-11 HWH-Bunclody 3-11
The pace of Britney Conroy led to Bunclody snatching a very quick lead in this Junior 'A' ladies' football county championship final held in St. Patrick's Park, Enniscorthy, recently.
A goal and a point advantage in the first two minutes was looking convincing, even that early in the match. But while Bunclody began well, Taghmon-Camross drove in impressive fashion.
Ailish Sinnott settled herself ten minutes into the game and prepared for a woman of the match performance.
In answer to HWH-Bunclody, she snatched a vital goal, kicked over two points, and claimed another major with a penalty that she was awarded.
Aoife Dunne followed suit to Sinnott when it came to scoring goals, grabbing one to end the Taghmon-Camross blitz. This quickly changed the scoreboard but a surprise was in store as Bunclody stormed back into contention.
Being eight points down after a great start may have shocked many on the sideline supporting Bunclody, but a great showcase of character was provided by the green and yellow women to come back fighting harder than ever.
With the incredible Fiona Kavanagh-Kehoe leading the Half Way House attack, she snatched two points and set up Ciara Carroll to add her name to the scoresheet.
Kate Hendrick proved trustworthy over the dead-balls, and when they needed a goal before the break, Hendrick kicked low and raised the flag.
This left the north Wexford woman remarkably ahead by two at the break, a score which seemed unlikely after that surge of goals from Taghmon-Camross.
The second-half proved was a fantastic showcase for ladies' football. Two brilliant teams were neck and neck throughout with great skill on display.
Róisín Kelly and Kate Kirwan added their names to the scoresheet before Becky Doyle, Sarah Banville and Michelle Carty did likewise for the opposition.
Clare O'Gorman and Tishy Doran fought hard in defence for Taghmon-Camross, while Maeve Sinnott, Rachel Kelly and Mickayla Farrell never stopped working for Bunclody.
Ailish Sinnott broke Bunclody hearts once again with a lowly kick finding the net.
Further points from Ciara Banville, Becky Doyle and Sinnott pushed their side ahead, but Bunclody had one more burst in them before the game ended.
A huge effort came from Britney Conroy, Fortune and Fiona Kavanagh-Kehoe, but time ran out for Bunclody and Taghmon-Camross emerged with the Junior 'A' ladies' football county championship title.
