Taghmon-Camross stroll to success

Dean Goodison

Taghmon-Camross butchered Naomh Eanna to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Enniscorthy Electrical Wholesale Junior hurling championship at Oylegate on Sunday.

Taghmon-Camross 3-25 Naomh Eanna 0-7

The New Ross District men have been thereabouts for a good few years now and performances like this are nothing new. From the opening score, the first of a treble of majors for tricky full-forward Stephen O'Gorman, they led and never looked back.

Eight points from midfield says a lot. The space afforded to them in the middle third was staggering. At times they chose to simply flip balls across from one side to the other, always to a grateful free man, who invariably hit the target. Indeed, it was merely shooting practice for a lot of the second-half.

O'Gorman's low, fourth-minute shot past Jack Cushe that crept inside the post was followed by his second major in the 14th minute, a batted tennis-smash finish on the run, following great work in defence by Adam Winters.

That second goal increased the lead seven and Taghmon-Camross would add a further sextet of points before the interval, with the impressive Pierce Doyle bringing his tally to 0-6, to make the score 2-10 to 0-4.

Darragh Hughes picked up his third free after the change-around and he would end as Gorey's top scorer on a day to forget. However, Taghmon-Camross were picking off scores from all distances and angles as the lead swelled.

The last score came from O'Gorman as he aptly completed his hat-trick with a clever finish from Doyle's pass.

Gorey can avoid a relegation final next time out if they beat Monageer-Boolavogue, but they will need to show more than this.
