Wexford edge out Limerick in first win of league
BEN BROSNAN with a 70th minute pointed free handed Wexford a lifeline as they edged out Limerick in this crucial Allianz National Football League Division 3 game played at Innovate Wexford Park on Sunday.

Wexford had lost all their three games going into this clash so a win was crucial if they were to entertain any hope of avoiding relegation. They left it incredibly late for it was Brosnan's huge forty meter free from out on the right that eventually separated the sides.
'We created lots of chances but our finishing was not good. Still we conceded two goals in a two minute spell late in the first half after we had gone five points in front. That left us battling for the remainder of the game but we'll take the victory. It's our first so it should give the players confidence,' said Manager David Power.
Limerick Manager John Brudair was disappointed with the end result.
'We did enough in the second half to have taken the points but let the game slip in the closing stages. We dominated throughout the majority of the second half but failed to avail of our chances, while we conceded easy frees towards the end. They punished us for this lack of discipline,' he said.
Wexford led 1-4 to 0-2 after nineteen minutes, the goal a twelfth minute finish from Kevin O'Grady, but Limerick in a two minutes spell between the 24th and 26th minutes struck for goals from Darragh Treacy and Peter Nash which left them leading 2-6 to 1-7 at the interval.
With Gearoid Hegarty dominant in midfield, the Shannonsiders through the accuracy of Killian Phair led 2-10 to 1-12 after fifty-four minutes, but suffered a setback with Seanie Buckley dismissed on a second yellow card one minute later. Nine minutes from the end Wexford defender Michael Furlong was sent off on a straight red following an off the ball incident, but it was two late pointed frees from Brosnan that edge the homeside through to two crucial points.
