Amazing run by Gilshinan at world Masters
Wexford athletes gave a very good account of themselves at last week's world Masters indoor championships held in Toruń, Poland.
Anne Gilshinan (Slaney Olympic) had a fabulous run in the W50 1,500m, battling all the way to the line but, alas, being pipped for top spot by just 0.03 seconds.
As one of her friends looking on said: 'Well done Anne, thought you had it. I too dipped at the line with you, nearly smacked my head!' Anne can be well pleased with her silver medal.
Jackie Carthy (Kilmore) followed up on her win in the national Masters indoor 3,000m a few weeks back with a couple of classy runs in the 8k cross-country and 1,500m.
With the cross-country race made up of W35-45 athletes, Jackie ran a very strong race to finish 14th overall and second W45.
She ran her fastest time in five years to place seventh in the 1,500m (4.50.21 minutes).
Niall Sheil (St. Killian's), who also recently won national gold over 3,000m, ran out of his skin in both 3,000m (eighth) and 8k cross-country (16th).
He narrowly missed out on team bronze in the cross-country.
