Buggy and Keeling lose out in semi

A SUPER double-header of handball action thrilled handball fans in Thurles last weekend but unfortunately for Wexford's Barry Goff and Colin Keeling it was little consolation as the St. Mary's/Castlebridge duo were beaten at the penultimate stage in the Senior doubles championships.

The Tipperary venue played host to some fantastic handball last Saturday afternoon and the Wexford duo were left to think of what might have been as they were beaten by Meath pair Tom Sheridan and Brian Carroll (2008 All-Ireland champions).

The Model county men dominated long stages in both games and showed some terrific fighting qualities in a super game. However, bad luck and failure to finish off both games when the opportunities arose cost the Wexford men.

The first set is always vital and Goff and Keeling gave everything to win but after being in pole position midway through the opening set eventually lost out 21-19.

The pair form the Royal county looked to be heading for the finish line in the second set with a 14-7 lead before a revival began in the Wexford men and the purple and gold pair found themselves serving at 20-18 to win the second set but unfortunately the ball bounced back in the Meath men's favour and with Sheridan's skill and tenacity combined with the youthful flare of Brian Carroll they drove home four killer points to win the second game 21-20 and dump the brave Wexford pair out of the championship.
