Community Games in health promotion
THE HSE Community Games is inviting Areas around the country to participate in the 'Healthy Events Awards 2013'.
Any Area can apply, no matter what their size. To apply for these awards, an Area must make their events more health promoting by completing at least ten actions, at least two per topic.
These include sun safety, healthy eating, physical activity, substance misuse and mental health. The improvements in training and events will be carried out between January and August, 2013.
The size of your Area, the number of volunteers and participants will all be taken into consideration by the judges. The more actions you choose the better your chances of winning.
Areas must submit substantiation that the actions have been carried out during January and August and application forms must be submitted by September 31. Areas are also encouraged to include photographs and short videos as well as written materials. Judging will be based on evidence provided, so the more evidence the better.
€500 (to be confirmed) will be awarded to the Areas judged to have made the most effort to improve the health promoting aspects of their events. The winners of the healthy events awards will have their health promoting events showcased at a national HSE Community Games event. In addition there will be three awards for the top Areas in any category - gold €1,000; silver €750 and bronze €500.
Meanwhile, the volunteer (youth and adult) recognition awards for 2012 in Wexford will be selected over the coming weeks. Areas are invited to forward names to the county Secretary by October 4. No entries will be accepted after that date. The youth award is aimed at recognising the special contribution of young people within the Games.
Your next county meeting will be held in the Ferrycarrig Hotel on Monday, October 15, at 8 p.m. Areas are requested to have their delegates present.
